Upload product listings

A good listing is key to whether customers ultimately buy a product, and this course gives you an introduction to how listings are displayed and what elements they include.

Detailed steps for uploading a Listing and a quality self-check

Upload methods and detailed steps
Amazon provides the cross-site synchronization tools “One-click Listing Global (LOSG)” and “Build International Listings (BIL)” to help sellers sync Listings across multiple sites, with automatic translation features that save time and operating costs and make it easier to expand their business globally.
LOSG:a synchronization tool embedded in the Listing creation process. With One-click Listing Global, sellers can quickly and easily sync and translate a Listing from one site to multiple Amazon sites worldwide, without having to upload to each site separately, making it easier to test how new products perform in different markets. Sellers can also sync updates and optimizations to Listing information across different target sites.
BIL:a synchronization tool independent of the listing creation process. BIL can synchronize information from the source site (Source Marketplace) to other sites, including product parameters such as titles, images, descriptions, prices, and delivery methods. When the source site information changes, the corresponding synchronized site information is also updated, making it easier for Amazon sellers to manage product listings efficiently and helping them sell products globally.

Single upload (add a new product)
Amazon provides cross-site synchronization tools, “One-click Listing Global (LOSG)” and “Build International Listings (BIL),” to help sellers sync listings across multiple sites, and offers automatic translation to save time and operating costs, making it easier to expand globally.
Applicable scope
● For all sellers;
● Suitable for adding one product at a time and listing fewer than 100 products;
● Suitable for listing products in product categories specified in “Requirements and Restrictions”.
Two use cases
● Match an existing product listing:
If someone already sells the product you want to sell on Amazon, you must keep it consistent with the existing product detail page;
● Create a new listing:
If the product you want to sell is not on Amazon, you can create a new listing, and Amazon will create a new product detail page.
● Copy an existing listing:
If you have multiple similar products (for example, two different bottles from the same brand made of the same material), you can first create one listing, and then use the “Copy listing” feature to create a second listing. The feature lets you quickly copy product information from the first listing in your inventory and make only the required changes to the second listing.
Bulk upload (inventory file template)
An inventory file template is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that contains multiple data columns for describing products using different attributes or information fields.
Applicability
● For sellers enrolled in the Professional selling plan;
● Suitable for adding multiple products at once and listing more than 100 products;
● Can be easily edited in Excel;
Preparation for batch uploads
● Install a spreadsheet program on your computer (if you don't have one), such as Microsoft Excel;
● Determine the product category for your product. Go to the Browse tree guide to classify products;
● Request approval (if necessary) to sell products in specific product categories. Go to categories and products that require approval;
● Match your products to the Amazon catalog. Amazon will create product listings for your products based on the information you include in your file, in the following order:
Match ISBN, UPC, or EAN: If your file includes product IDs (ISBN, UPC, or EAN) for all products, and Amazon has matching IDs, Amazon will try to find matches for your products using the information you provided;
Match manufacturer or personal profile information: If your file does not include an ISBN, UPC, or EAN for a specific product, Amazon will try to find a match based on the manufacturer or personal information you submitted in your file. Creating product listings requires accurate matches;
Create a new product listing: If Amazon cannot find a match in Amazon’s existing catalog using the product ID or manufacturer/personal profile information, but you provide enough data in the upload file, Amazon will create a new product page for the products with sufficient data.
● Enable macros in Excel to perform data validation, correct errors, and automate some tasks when filling and uploading files. The file templates for the Inventory Loader and Book Loader, Music Loader, and Video Loader all include macros to help simplify the process of creating inventory files. You can find these macros in the Excel Load Macros menu in the toolbar at the top of the template:
● Validate ● Upload file ● Import file ● Update template
Build International Listings (BIL)
Build International Listings Tool (BIL), or Build International Listings, is a self-service tool that helps sellers quickly and easily identify existing product detail pages, copy sales information, and sync pricing from a source marketplace (for example, Amazon US) to create and update products from a single source marketplace in one or more target marketplaces. Sellers can save a lot of time and effort by managing products in only one marketplace.
Applies to
● For sellers enrolled in the Professional selling plan;
● Have the corresponding joint account or linked account;
● Suitable for listing products in the product categories specified in “Requirements and Restrictions”.
● If you use "Build International Listings" in Europe: have a European joint account;
● If you use "Build International Listings" in North America: have a North American joint account;
● If using “Build International Listings” across regions: have linked accounts across regions.
● The account is in good standing in the marketplace to be linked;
● Listed products must meet the following requirements so that they can be connected and synchronized.
● Product detail pages with the same ASIN must exist in both the source marketplace and the target marketplace;
● The ASIN must have an active listing in the source marketplace.
● The product must comply with all applicable laws and must not be a prohibited product in the target marketplace.
● Sellers must be approved to sell restricted products or categories.
Build International Listings (BIL) considerations:
● The easiest way to tell whether you have a unified account or linked accounts is to click the marketplace switcher at the top of your seller account and see whether other marketplaces appear (North America: Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, Amazon.com.mx, Amazon.com.br; or Europe: Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.it, Amazon.es, Amazon.be, Amazon.nl, Amazon.pl, Amazon.tr, Amazon.se).

Special note: Missing product descriptions may cause products to be search suppressed or unsearchable. A correct and complete Listing can attract traffic and drive conversions. Compared with an incomplete Listing, it can generate 22% more traffic and 9.8% more orders1, while also improving the customer shopping experience. To determine whether a Listing is good enough, Amazon has a scoring standard called the Listing scoring table: the higher the score, the more complete the Listing is and the better it meets consumer needs.
Data source: 2023 Amazon survey results
Explanation of Listing scorecard scores:
A score of 80 or above (Grade A) is considered a Listing with acceptable completeness. We recommend that sellers use a score of 80 as the standard for self-diagnosis. If the score is below 80, you can check which elements are missing and make improvements.
A
80–100 points
Has all required elements or is missing only one
B
70–79 points
1-2 elements are missing, there is room for improvement
C
60–69 points
2–3 elements are missing, and there is room for improvement
D
50–59 points
3–4 elements are missing and need improvement
E
10–49 points
Missing 4–5 core attributes will severely affect visibility and conversion, and urgent improvement is needed
F
0 points
An ASIN has been created but has compliance issues, or is missing all elements, and is suppressed in search and browse.
Listing scoring table update notes:
Compared with the previous version, this upgraded scorecard adds four new key scoring criteria. This update helps consumers quickly understand products, make purchase decisions, and improve the customer experience. At the same time, the updated scoring criteria also provide everyone with a more comprehensive standard for measuring Listing health quality!
Pay special attention to:
Because the new scoring table adds four new criteria and the weight of other items has also been adjusted, if you do not make changes, after 01/01/2024, under the new standards, many ASINs that were originally rated A will become rated B or even lower!Therefore, we recommend making adjustments immediately to help ensure that your product traffic and sales can continue to remain at a high level under the latest standards without affecting Listing quality.
Here's an example:
If you operate a store in the North America marketplace and mainly sell in the home category, the score for a home-category ASIN will differ before and after the revision.

This example explains the importance of adjusting your Listing based on the new scoring rubric. This ASIN rating was affected because of “key attributes.” In the old scoring table, this item was not scored, but in the new version, it accounts for 25 points. If it is not filled out completely, you can only get partial or no points, so be sure to fill out “key attributes” as completely as possible.
Three steps to optimize the brand-new Listing scoring criteria:
Step1:
Optimization content: assess the overall ASIN status and create an update plan
Time required: 1–2 weeks
Available tools: new rating sheet/Growth Opportunities/Fix Your Product (FYP)/Listing Quality Dashboard (LQD)
Step2:
Optimized content: complete product information, upload product images, and make bulk updates

Detailed explanation of Listing scorecard scoring items
Improve Listing title quality
● Title length must be between 10 and 200 characters;
● The title should begin with the brand name entered in the “Brand Name” field (for example, if the brand name is abcd, the title should be abcd xxxx); if it is an unbranded product, this item does not receive points.
Fill in all key attributes
This refers to the attributes recommended by the system on the Listing upload page, which are used to enrich product information (for example, when buying a coat, in addition to basic information such as color/size/material/price, information such as belt/pockets/sleeve length). The more fields you fill in, the higher your score. If you fill in all of them, you get a perfect score. Clear and correct attributes help consumers better understand product information to make purchasing decisions and reduce possible future returns.
Where are key attributes displayed?
● On the far left side of the search results page. After you fill in the key attributes, customers can filter products by attribute, and your product will appear on the selected search results page, bringing in more traffic.
● On the listing page, consumers can also see information about key attributes, learn more about your products, and be encouraged to buy.
● On pages where products are compared, consumers can clearly see the differences between products, and more detailed key attribute information will make your products more competitive!
How do I fill out key attributes?
Single product upload page
On the single-product edit page, complete all attribute groups marked Required, and fill in the attribute groups marked Recommend as fully as possible.
Bulk upload page
Go to Amazon Seller Central and follow this path: “Catalog > Add Products via Upload > Download Spreadsheet > select ‘Update product details’ to get the products.” For the last 50 files you submitted, you can edit the previously submitted product information by editing “Processing Summary.” For other files submitted before the last 50 files, you can use the product template to update product details.
Download the product inventory file template for the corresponding category and fill it out. According to the latest template, the attribute groups are currently divided into: Product Identity, Offer, Product Detail, Variations, Safety&Compliance, Image, and Shipping.
Image information completeness
This metric evaluates how much information product images convey so you can give consumers clearer, richer product information and a better shopping experience.
How can you improve image information completeness?
● Based on the characteristics of products in different categories, enrich the selling point information conveyed in the images as much as possible by showing the product itself, multiple angles, usage scenarios, and size/detail views; include at least 4 images, and refer to best-selling competing products’ images to learn from their strengths.
Ensure that the main image and additional images meet category compliance requirements
● The main image must have a pure white background (RGB values: 255, 255, 255);
● The main image must be a professional photograph of the actual product (must not be a graphic, illustration, physical model);
● Show only the product itself from a single front angle, and do not show accessories that are not for sale or logos, watermarks, color blocks, text, or other elements; the product should occupy at least 85% of the main image;
● The longest side of the image should be at least 1,600 pixels. Meeting this minimum size requirement enables the zoom function on the website. The longest side of the image must not exceed 10,000 pixels;
● Amazon accepts JPEG, TIFF, or GIF file formats, but JPEG is preferred (animated .gif files are not supported);
● The main image for shoes should show a single shoe facing left at a 45° angle;
● The main images for women’s and men’s clothing should use models;
● All images of children’s and baby clothing should be flat-lay photos (without models).
*For more compliance requirements for main and additional images, search for “Style Guide” in Seller Central and download the Style Guide PDF for the relevant category.
