It turns out the rebate isn’t just $50,000—it can be as high as $150,000?? Amazon New Seller Starter Pack Frequently Asked Questions!
March 12, 2022
Starter Pack for New Sellers launched with great fanfare on 03/01/2022 PT, offering unprecedented discounts and drawing widespread attention from sellers. Through channels such as the WeChat backend, livestreaming platforms, and seller surveys, we have received many questions that sellers care deeply about:
I completed my brand registration last year, but I only listed ASINs this year. Am I eligible to participate?
I listed FBA ASINs in 2021, but the products weren’t received into inventory until 2022, so can I still get the Starter Pack?
I already sell on the US Marketplace, and I plan to sell on the Japan Marketplace this year. Am I considered a new seller on the Japan Marketplace?
First, here’s a little spoiler for everyone: the answers to the questions above are all Yes!
Today, we’ve put together some common questions from sellers and provided authoritative answers all at once!
This article is long, with 22 questions and 22 answers in total, covering the Starter Pack’s eligibility requirements, brand requirements, and how to redeem benefits, so be sure to bookmark it first!
01 Perfect Launch playbook eligibility
❓ Q1: I listed an ASIN on the US Marketplace in 2021, but it didn’t arrive and start selling until 2022. Do I count as a new seller?
▲ First, you need to be a professional seller!
▲ Key criterion for identifying beginner sellers: launch your first ASIN available for purchase on or after January 1, 2022. How is the date for “available for purchase” defined?For example, although a seller listed their first FBA ASIN in 2021, the product did not complete receiving and become available for sale until February 1, 2022, so February 1, 2022 is the date the first ASIN available for purchase was listed, which also meets the definition of a new seller.
❓ Q2: If I start selling in the US, Japan, and Europe now, how many times can I get the benefits?
▲ The Marketplaces where you publish new ASINs are limited to these: US Marketplace, Japan Marketplace, UK Marketplace, Germany Marketplace, France Marketplace,Italy Marketplace and Spain Marketplace.
Attention!The US Marketplace, Japan Marketplace, and the five major European Marketplaces are independent of each other. As long as you have not sold ASINs in any of the US, JP, or EU regions, you can be considered a beginner seller in that region and enjoy the benefits of one Starter Pack for beginner sellers. A beginner seller can receive the full Starter Pack for beginner sellers up to 3 times, and eligible brand owners can receive rebates of up to $150,000!

❓ Q3: Can only brand owners/FBA sellers get the benefits in the Starter Pack?
The 3 task tracks in the Starter Pack for New Sellers are independent of each other. If you meet the requirements for all 3 tracks, you can get 3 benefits:
Eligible brand owners can receive 5% of branded sales back (up to $50,000), as well as discounts on Vine and Transparency;
Sellers who join FBA can get up to $200 off Fulfillment by Amazon inbound placement service fees and qualify for a $200 Sponsored Products coupon by creating an advertising campaign;
Eligible sellers who used coupons can get a $50 discount on coupon fees.
But!Kids make choices—adults want it all!You can qualify for all three reward tracks at the same time by registering your brand, joining FBA, and using coupons!
❓ Q4: I completed Brand Registry in 2021, but I didn’t launch my first ASIN until 2022. Do I qualify?
The completion date for Amazon Brand Registry can be earlier than the date when the store lists its first purchasable ASIN, but no later than 6 months after the first purchasable ASIN goes live.
❓ Q5: Does my brand need to be brand new?I completed Brand Registry in 2021 and authorized it to other Marketplaces in 2022. Is that OK?
Requirements for whether the brand is new: to be eligible to claim rewards in the corresponding region, your brand must not have sold products on Amazon in the specific region (US Marketplace/top 5 European Marketplaces/Japan Marketplace) before January 1, 2022.
As an example:
Q: I completed Brand Registry on Amazon US in 2021, and in 2022 I completed Brand Registry on Amazon Japan through brand authorization. Can I receive Brand Registry benefits on Amazon Japan?
Answer: If the brand had not sold on Amazon Japan before January 1, 2022, and the registrant is the brand owner or their internal staff member, completing brand registration in Japan through brand authorization also qualifies.
❓ Q6: One brand sold through multiple accounts: I started selling products from the same brand this year through multiple accounts. Can each account get the discount?
A brand can use the offer only once per region (US Marketplace/the 5 major European Marketplaces/Japan Marketplace), and only on one selling account, based on the first selling account that meets the eligibility requirements.
For example, if seller A first qualified for the discount in the Amazon US Marketplace and then authorized the brand to sellers B and C, seller accounts B and C can no longer receive the discount.
❓ Q7: Selling multiple brands on one account: If I sell multiple brands through my seller account, can I get multiple 5% rewards for multiple brands?
Yes, as long as the seller is confirmed as the brand owner of these brands and sells products from these brands through their seller account, the seller can earn a 5% reward for these brands.
After eligibility is confirmed, brand sales can receive this rebate for 1 year. If, during that year, total eligible brand sales across multiple brands reach $1 million, the rebate ends, meaning can receive up to $50,000 in rebates.
❓ Q8: For brand owners, which sales are eligible for a 5% rebate reward?How is the start of the 1-year eligibility period defined?
▲ First, your seller account must be confirmed by Amazon as the brand owner of the relevant products sold (see Q10 for the exact definition). Once eligibility has been determined, sales generated by this brand within your seller account are eligible for this reward for 12 months;
▲ If the eligible brand sales reach a cumulative total of $1 million during these 12 months, the reward will end, meaning you can receive up to $50,000 in rewards.
▲ This 12-month eligibility period begins when you list your first purchasable ASIN, or when you enroll in the “Amazon Brand Registry” program and are recognized by Amazon US as the brand owner, whichever is later.
▲ Although this incentive cannot be combined with other benefits provided by Amazon, including 5% of brand sales from the FBA New Selection program, we will always provide the benefit that is more favorable to you.
Please Note!Brand sales will start accruing as early as March 1, 2022.
❓ Q9: I completed Amazon Brand Registry using a TM mark (Pending Trademark). Can I enjoy the benefits?
Yes.
▲ The eligibility criteria have always emphasized “complete Amazon Brand Registration.” Both TM and R trademarks can be used to complete Amazon Brand Registration, regardless of trademark status. Therefore, sellers who do not have a trademark are advised to apply for a trademark as soon as possible!After you receive the trademark application receipt (that is, the TM mark), you can complete Amazon Brand Registry.
▲ After the brand owner completes Amazon Brand Registry with a TM mark, they will be authorized to use the Amazon Vine program;
Once the TM mark becomes an R mark (the brand does not need to register the brand again), you can then get access to use the Transparency program. The $100 Transparency program discount included in the benefit is valid for 1 year starting from joining the Transparency program, not from completing Brand Registry.
▲ Only brand owners who have completed Amazon Brand Registry or their internal personnel are eligible for benefits. For an explanation of “brand owner or their internal staff,” please see the next question!
❓ Q10: What does “brand owner or their internal staff” mean?Where can I check whether I qualify?Can I apply?
Brand owner or internal personnel: A brand owner is easy to understand: the owner of the brand/trademark. An insider generally refers to an employee of a company that owns the brand.
Example:
You are an employee of Company A and are responsible for operating Company A’s Amazon US store. Now your boss asks you to use the company’s brand to enroll in Amazon Brand Registry. If the information you submit during the Brand Registry process can indeed prove that there is an internal relationship between this brand and the company whose store you operate, then your store may meet this requirement.
*Important: Dealers, distributors, and other agents are not considered brand owners.
How can you check whether you are the brand owner?
01 Amazon US Marketplace sellers:
Log in to Seller Central and go to 👉“Brand Offer Eligibility” page to view
In the “Identified as Brand Owner” column, if “Yes” is displayed, it means you are the brand owner. If “No” is displayed, and you believe you are indeed part of the brand’s internal team, you can click “Confirm Identity as Brand Owner” and follow the instructions to apply.
02 Sellers on other Amazon sites:
The Brand Promotion Eligibility page is currently available only to sellers on the US Marketplace. For sellers on other Marketplaces, if you have permission to use Amazon Brand Analytics (Seller Central → Brands → Amazon Brand Analytics), Vine (Seller Central → Advertising → Vine), and other tools that only brand owners can use, then generally, you are the brand owner or an internal team member.
I'm clearly the brand owner, but I haven't been granted the relevant permissions. How can I fix this?
01 Already have a seller account, but haven’t started Amazon Brand Registry:
Be sure to log in to Brand Registry using your seller account credentials when you register your brand with Amazon. This gives you a chance to select the corresponding seller account during the registration process. See the image below:
02 Amazon Brand Registry has already been completed: two methods
● As mentioned above, apply through the “Brand Promotion Eligibility” page
● Contact Seller Support to request access to a brand-building tool (for example, Amazon Brand Analytics or Vine)
Step 1: Sign in to the seller account that will use the brand-building tool.
Step 2: Contact Seller Support. In the case, clearly state the name of the brand you are applying for and the specific brand-building tool you are applying for.
Step 3: Seller Support will review your request according to the relevant compliance policy process and will notify you of the review result by email.
02 Common questions about selling on Amazon, trademark registration, and Brand Registry
Recently, we’ve also received many messages from new sellers, and even from people who haven’t opened a store. Many are still unsure about when to open a store, apply for a trademark, and complete Brand Registry.
❓ Q1: We’re just getting started selling on Amazon. Can we register a store first and then apply for a trademark?
Yes, but if you want to start enjoying the benefits in the Starter Pack for new sellers and start using brand-owner exclusive tools earlier, we recommend that you apply for a trademark even before you start registering your store.
About 1 month after you submit your trademark application (timing varies slightly by country/region trademark office), you can receive a trademark filing receipt (that is, the TM mark), so once your store is registered, you can immediately start Amazon Brand Registry with the TM mark. Register your trademark early, get the benefits early!
❓ Q2: I don’t have a brand yet. Can I list products first and complete Brand Registry later, after I get the brand?
That's OK too!However, when sellers add products and create Listing, they will find that they need to enter a brand name. If the product does not have a brand name, you can directly check “This product has no brand name”;
If you have a brand name but haven’t applied for a trademark or enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry yet, you can still apply for approval to sell under the brand name. However, we still recommend that sellers apply for trademarks and complete Brand Registry as soon as possible. Remember: only if you complete Brand Registry within 6 months of listing your first sellable product can you enjoy the benefits included in the Starter Pack.
❓ Q3: I have a domestic trademark. Can I directly register my brand with Amazon?
Sorry, my friend, you can’t.
Amazon Brand Registry only accepts trademarks issued by government trademark offices in the following countries/regions: the United States, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Australia, India, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Singapore, Spain, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Egypt, Sweden, Poland, the European Union, and the United Arab Emirates.
Your trademark registered in China is protected by Chinese trademark law, but it is not protected by trademark laws overseas. Doesn't that make sense? We recommend that sellers apply for overseas trademarks as soon as possible!
❓ Q4: Where can I apply for a trademark?Can Amazon help me apply for it?How are fees charged?
For trademark applications, you can find a relevant law firm or service provider, or check the relevant law firms in Amazon IP Accelerator

After you get a trademark, enroll in Amazon Brand Registry. Amazon does not charge a fee.
03 Benefit Redemption Questions
❓ Q1: I completed the task. How do I claim the benefits?
After the seller completes the corresponding tasks, the corresponding benefits will be automatically credited or issued at the specified time, and different benefits are issued in different ways; for example, the sales rebate for the current month will be directly deducted from the Referral Fee in the following month, and discounts and coupons for Vine products can be used to offset program fees (redeemable after April 15, 2022).
Some examples are provided below; please go to Seller Central for more details.
❓ Q2: Do I have to complete all tasks to receive benefits?
No. Eligible new sellers can receive the corresponding benefits after they complete the specified tasks.
For example, eligible brand owners can enjoy sales rebates, and discounts on Vine and the Transparency program; they do not necessarily need to be FBA sellers.
❓ Q3: How do I receive my 5% Brand Referral Bonus?
Sales rebates will be issued monthly, and the amount equals 5% of eligible brand sales from the previous month.
It will appear on your payment statement as a credit against this month's referral fee. This credit does not expire.

❓ Q4: How do I redeem my Amazon Vine product offer?
After enrolling in the Amazon Vine program, eligible sellers will receive a $200 credit. These credits will be applied to the first $200 fee charged under the Amazon Vine program (and will expire after 1 year if unused). The offer will be officially available for redemption after 04/15/2022.
❓ Q5: How do I redeem Transparency product offers?
After you enroll in the Transparency program, you’ll receive a $100 credit. These credits will offset the first $100 fee charged when registering an ASIN in the program (if unused, they will expire after one year). Fees are charged on a per-item basis.
❓ Q6: How can I redeem my Fulfillment by Amazon inbound shipping fee discount?
▲ Domestic inbound discount: New sellers using Amazon’s Partnered Carrier program (PCP) will have their first $100 in shipping fees waived.
The discount will be applied to as many Partnered Carrier program shipments as possible until the full $100 credit is used. Any unused portion will expire one year after you create your first Partnered Carrier program shipment. This discount does not apply to sellers who have already received the international inbound discount described below.
