Have more questions about tax compliance?In addition to VAT, what are the requirements to start selling in Europe?Don't worry, I've attached the following Q&A with a novice seller to help you learn more about other European compliance matters!

Why do I have to apply for a VAT number?
Since the implementation of the withholding policy in July 2021, when you use Amazon Logistics (FBA) services or store products in overseas European warehouses, you will trigger VAT obligations (selling products to business buyers will also trigger obligations).
Simply put, meeting any of the following conditions will trigger a European VAT obligation:
❶ When you use Amazon FBA services;
❷ Store products in overseas warehouses in Europe;
❸ Selling products to business buyers.

Why is it recommended to register an Italian tax number first?How long does it take to register for VAT in other countries?
You can refer to the chart below to obtain VAT and EORI registration application times for European countries.

*Note: The data are all based on average timelines provided by third party tax service providers as of June 2022 and do not represent Amazon's views. Other than VAT, are there any other policies to be aware of?
NO!Sellers on European sites also need to take care to meet European environmental compliance policies, i.e. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements!
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is an environmental policy in EU countries and regions that requires producers to be responsible for the entire life cycle of products they launch on the market, from the beginning of product design to the end of the product life cycle (including waste collection and treatment). Under EPR regulations, the liable entities must mitigate the environmental impacts of their products throughout the entire product life cycle.
If you are unable to prove to Amazon that you meet the requirements of the EPR, Amazon will take the following actions:
DE
● Packaging: Includes primary packaging (that is, product packaging) and secondary packaging (that is, delivery packaging). Amazon will collect and verify your German Packaging Law EPR Registration Number (LUCID) for all products starting July 1, 2022.
● Electrical and electronic equipment (EEE): For all products classified as electrical and electronic equipment as of January 1, 2023, Amazon will collect and verify your registration number (WEEE-Reg. -Nr.de).
France
● If you sell EPR eligible products to customers with a delivery address in France through Amazon.fr and do not provide Amazon with a valid EPR registration number corresponding to these EPR eligible products, Amazon will by default pay the corresponding EPR environmental payment to the competent producer responsibility organization on your behalf and collect the corresponding amount from you.

I want to sell heating supplies to Europe. What documents are required to comply with Amazon policies and European government regulations?
We recommend using the free Amazon Compliance Artifact “Compliance Reference”!
You can use this feature to check the compliance requirements and solutions for the types of products sold on Amazon Europe that are strictly controlled by local regulations, such as baby/child products (strollers, children's toys, etc.), electrical products (adapters, mobile power banks, etc.), and radio products (radio transceivers, smart plug products). Whether your products or supply chain are at home or abroad, whether you are a brand or manufacturer, you can find the right service provider for relevant inquiries.
Through the “Compliance Reference” tool, you can directly check requirements related to Amazon product compliance, dangerous goods compliance, export trade compliance, import trade compliance, etc. in target markets. It is recommended that during the product selection and preparation stage, you can understand product compliance requirements, required compliance certification documents, and obtain compliance service provider information to avoid the risk of takedown in advance.
