What should I do if my listing is deactivated for WEEE non-compliance and repeated appeals can’t restore it?
July 7, 2023
According to the EU Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy, all electronic products sold to Germany must comply with the requirements of the German Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE). As a result, from July 1, 2023, Amazon will remove from sale all products that do not meet WEEE compliance requirements. If you list a product subject to WEEE in Germany after this date, the new product will be deactivated within 24 hours, and you must provide a valid WEEE registration number before it can be reinstated after verification is completed.
If you have not obtained a German WEEE registration number, we recommend that you use Amazon Extended Producer Responsibility Service (ACES) to complete WEEE compliance. Amazon cooperates with a qualified authorized representative to help you sign up. The official qualification website is available and transparent!
For products removed from sale for not meeting WEEE compliance requirements, sellers are most concerned about the following questions:
01 Why is the WEEE compliance issue still not fully resolved after repeated appeals?
02 Why is the product still not reinstated after the appeal is successful?
03 How will inventory be handled after a product is deactivated?
First, the seller needs to determine whether the product was deactivated due to WEEE compliance issues.
Step1:Sellers need to log in to Amazon Seller Central, click “Performance > Performance Notifications,” go to the Performance Notifications page, and check whether the following message appears in the seller notification list on that page.
Step2: Sellers need to click “Inventory > Manage All Inventory > Search Suppressed and Inactive Listings” in Amazon Seller Central, go to the corresponding page, and check whether either of the following two prompt messages is displayed under your “Approval Required” category.
If the answers to both Step1 and Step2 are “yes”, it means your product was deactivated due to WEEE compliance issues.
Second, sellers need to understand how to identify the specific WEEE non-compliance issue and contact Seller Support to submit an accurate appeal.
For removed ASINs, you need to identify the specific reason they were removed from the listing from the following three areas:
2 ways to troubleshoot “category errors”
Method 1: Go to the compliance portal
Check whether the submission entry point shown in the compliance portal matches the combination of the brand and device type you have registered or are registering. If there is a discrepancy, please contact your service provider/upstream vendor/EAR to confirm the accuracy of the product category shown in the compliance portal.
Method 2: Download the EPR Report to view
Download the EPR report to see if the category for the corresponding ASIN matches the combination of the brand and device type you have registered or are registering. If there is a discrepancy, please contact your service provider/upstream vendor/EAR to confirm that the compliance portal shows the correct product category.
EPR report path: Seller Central > Data Reports > Inventory and Sales Reports > Extended Producer Responsibility Classification Report.
If the compliance portal shows incorrect information, you need to immediately appeal the “classification error” issue.
Note
When filing an appeal, you need to provide the following information to Seller Support. If the information is unclear or incomplete, it may lead to issues such as your appeal not being accepted, repeated back-and-forth communication, or longer processing times.
Two main scenarios for the “misclassification” issue
Please contact Seller Support promptly to file an appeal based on the specific misclassification scenario below and the corresponding information required.
Scenario 1: selling products in category A, but incorrectly classified as category B
🔹 Merchant Token: xxxx
🔹Brand of WEEE products: xxxx
🔹 Equipment type for which the WEEE registration number has already been submitted: xxxx
🔹ASIN:xxxx
🔹Problem description: (Example) The product I sell should belong to category A, but the compliance portal shows it as category B. Please help correct the classification of the relevant product.
Scenario 2: The product being sold does not belong to the WEEE category, but is incorrectly classified as Category A
🔹 Merchant Token: xxxx
🔹Brand of WEEE products: xxxx
🔹Equipment type for which a WEEE registration number has already been submitted: xxxx
🔹ASIN:xxxx
🔹Problem description: (Example) The product I sell is xxx and does not fall within the scope of WEEE, but it was mistakenly classified as category A. Please help correct the classification of the corresponding product.
If either of the following two situations occurs, you need to contact Seller Support immediately to file an appeal:
Scenario 1: More than 7 business days have passed within the review timeframe, but it is still not approved and shows “Submitted”
🔹Merchant Token: xxxx
🔹Brand of WEEE products: xxxx
🔹Device type for which the WEEE registration number has already been submitted: xxxx
🔹ASIN:xxxx
🔹Issue description: (Example) I submitted my WEEE registration number through the corresponding upload entry in the compliance portal, but it still shows “Submitted” after more than 7 business days. Please review my registration number as soon as possible.
Situation 2: “Invalid” is displayed. After checking based on the reason given in the “Invalid” prompt, you find that there is no issue with the WEEE registration number
🔹 Merchant Token: xxxx
🔹Brand of WEEE product: xxxx
🔹Device type for which the WEEE registration number has been submitted: xxxx
🔹ASIN:xxxx
🔹Problem description: (Example) I have submitted my WEEE registration number through the corresponding upload entry in the compliance portal, but the review result shows “invalid.” I have checked it based on the prompt information and still maintain that my WEEE registration number is valid. Please re-review my registration number.
If either of the following two situations occurs, you need to contact Seller Support immediately to file an appeal:
Scenario 1: My ASIN’s brand is A, but the compliance portal shows B. I’ve already submitted my WEEE registration number and it shows “valid,” but the product is still deactivated
🔹Merchant Token: xxxx
🔹Brand of the WEEE product: xxxx
🔹Device type for which the WEEE registration number has been submitted: xxxx
🔹ASIN:xxxx
🔹Issue description: (Example) My ASIN’s brand is A, but it was incorrectly identified as B and displayed in the compliance portal. Please help correct this ASIN’s brand to A.
Scenario 2: My ASIN’s brand is B, there is no entry shown in the compliance portal, and my product has been deactivated
🔹 Merchant Token: xxxx
🔹Brand of the WEEE product: xxxx
🔹 Type of equipment that has submitted a WEEE registration number: xxxx
🔹ASIN:xxxx
🔹Issue description: (Example) My ASIN’s brand is B, and I have completed Brand Registry on Amazon. Please help enable the compliance portal submission entry for brand B.
After submitting the appeal, the seller needs to patiently wait for a response from the Amazon team. While waiting, sellers should maintain good communication and actively follow up on the progress of the appeal.
Once the seller has completed the appeal above and the corresponding issue has been successfully resolved, the seller will still need to manually reinstate the deactivated listings. You can follow the path below:
🔹Step1:Log in to Amazon Seller Central, click “Inventory > Manage All Inventory,” and select “Search Suppressed and Inactive Listings.”
🔹Step2: Select “Approval Required” on the left.
🔹Step3:You can see ASINs that were removed due to WEEE non-compliance, and the following two messages will appear.
Situation 1
① If the following appears on the right side of the ASIN, you need to click “Request Approval” on the right side of the ASIN.
② Go to the following page and click “Request Approval” again.
③ After clicking “Request Approval”, you will need to fill in your correct WEEE registration number in the box according to the combination of brands and equipment types to be submitted as shown on this page.
④ Please note that if you find the category is still incorrect, you need to first submit another appeal by following the method in Part 1, “Category Error Appeal.” After the category result is completely correct, complete the steps to restore sales.
Situation 2
① If the following appears on the right side of the ASIN:
② At this point, you need to provide the following information and contact Seller Support to get approval for the brand application.
🔹 Merchant Token: xxxx
🔹Brand of WEEE product: xxxx
🔹 Device type for which a WEEE registration number has already been submitted: xxxx
🔹ASIN:xxxx
🔹Issue description: (Example) My ASIN’s brand is C and is not enrolled in Brand Registry on Amazon. Please help register my ASIN’s brand.

How many days after an FBA item is deactivated is it removed?
Products that are unsellable due to WEEE non-compliance will be stored as stranded Amazon inventory. Stranded inventory will be returned to the seller or disposed of 45 days after the seller receives an email notification, at the seller’s expense. If you’ve enabled Amazon to automatically remove stranded inventory faster, these items may be removed sooner.
