4/How to analyze on-time delivery rate (OTDR) reports
In order to help sellers reduce delivery delays and improve delivery efficiency, following the introduction of the self-delivery performance index update policy on Amazon's US site, the UK site will also update this policy.
● Note for UK sellers: Starting September 16, 2025, self-shipping sellers are required to maintain an on-time delivery rate (OT-DR) of at least 90% when fulfilling Amazon UK self-delivery (FBM) orders.
If your on-time delivery rate (OTDR) fails, you may face varying degrees of processing, such as temporary removal of individual product listings or even restrictions on permission to create self-shipping product listings.
● Overseas warehouse sellers please note: The standard delivery time in the UK will be adjusted from 5 days to 4 days according to the actual carrier's shipping time.
PART.1 What is On-time Delivery Rate
OTDR (On-Time Delivery Rate) is the on-time delivery rate, which refers to the percentage of your self-delivered (FBM) products that are delivered on or before the “promised delivery date.” It is an indicator that measures that all self-shipped products are delivered to the buyer on or before the seller's promised “delivery date.” This date is calculated based on the seller-configured delivery date and does not take into account promised extensions. For buyers, delivery times directly affect the purchasing experience, and it is recommended that you set an appropriate transit time according to the actual situation to ensure that the buyer can receive the item within the expected time.
● Promised extension definition: Promised delivery time refers to the time when the promised delivery time, promised transportation time, and promised extension are added together. Promise extensions may be added to your promised delivery time to show buyers shopping on Amazon a promised delivery date with a higher likelihood of an on-time delivery. This extra time can account for logistical factors that might delay a delivery, such as extreme weather or transportation network constraints.
● OTDR calculation formula:
💡 For example
If you recently had 100 self-delivered shipments, 92 of which were delivered before the promised date, then your OTDR is 92%, which meets the requirements; but if only 88 are delivered on time, your OTDR is 88%, so you need to improve as soon as possible!
PART.2 Using Amazon's Tools to Easily Improve OTDR Compliance Rates
For sellers, what they are most concerned about is how to guarantee the OTDR compliance rate under the new OTDR regulations. Don't worry, Amazon has a few useful tools to help you achieve results.
1. Direct delivery packages from China are self-shipping sellers (the default shipping address is China), and open the following settings and tools:
● Set the SKU lead time to 0 days or 1 day
● Use Delivery Setup Automation (SSA)
● Use Amazon Buy Shipping Service (Buy Shipping)
2. Self-ship to sellers using an overseas warehouse in the UK (the default shipping address is mainland UK), and use the following tools:
● Enable automatic preparation time (AHT)
● Use Delivery Setup Automation (SSA)
● Use Amazon Buy Shipping Service (Buy Shipping)
💡 Draw key points
You still need to ship on time and comply with account-level late shipping rate requirements.
Tips for newbies
● Automated Readiness Handling Time (AHT): This tool sets the exact lead time for each SKU based on how long it usually takes you to hand over each SKU to the carrier. For new SKUs, the system will use the default lead time until you have enough shipments to calculate the automatic prep time.
● Automated Delivery Settings (SSA): Set delivery times based on the latest carrier (courier) delivery performance from your warehouse location to different buyer destinations.
● Buy Shipping (Buy Shipping): Help you choose a shipping label service that meets the buyer's delivery promise. The “Buy Shipping” service (Buy Shipping) is an online shipping service for sellers' self-fulfilling orders. It can automatically screen carriers and delivery methods that can deliver on time and meet Amazon's delivery requirements to ensure that sellers' self-shipping orders comply with Amazon's delivery policies.
PART.3 How to analyze your on-time delivery rate
1. On-time Delivery Rate (OTDR) Report View Path
Log in to Seller Central, check the “Account Status Panel” in Seller Center, check the OTDR through “Performance > Account Status > Delivery Performance > On-time Delivery Rate”, and download the OTDR report to find orders that have failed to meet OTDR performance standards.
2. Two steps to efficiently improve on-time delivery rate (OTDR)
Step 1: Filter problem orders
● Key action: In the OTDR report, filter out the orders marked “X” in the “Delivered After Promised Delivery Date (No Promised Extension)” column.
● Purpose: Quickly and accurately locate problem orders that are not delivered on time from a large number of orders, which are the direct cause of lowering OTDR metrics.
Step 2: Compare time differences and locate delayed links
● Key actions: Look at the difference between promised delivery and actual delivery, check whether delivery is delayed; check whether delivery is delayed by looking at the time difference between promised delivery and actual delivery.
● Purpose: Determine whether the problem is on the delivery side (such as delays in packaging and delivery to the carrier) or the logistics side (such as slow delivery by the carrier, delays in transit) through time differences, so as to clarify responsibility and make targeted improvements.
Performance tips
● From now on, it is recommended that you prepare in advance to ensure that 90% of OTDR compliance requirements can be met after September 16.
● For sellers shipping directly from China, we recommend that you set the lead time to 0-1 days and use SSA in conjunction with Buy Shipping.
● Check OTDR reports regularly, find and resolve problems in the delivery process in a timely manner, and continuously optimize delivery efficiency.
● Reasonably set the shipping time, not only to guarantee the buyer experience, but also to ensure that orders are delivered on time.
