MEEPO: The world’s smallest personal vehicle?

July 7, 2023
About a 5-minute read
It is the world’s smallest riding tool and the lightest riding tool.
When I started the business making electric skateboards, I actually created my own brand, built an independent website, promoted it on YouTube and in the community, and quickly achieved strong sales, selling 40 to 50 units a day. Within a year of selling on Amazon, we achieved revenue of around tens of millions, and we also ranked No. 1 in our subcategory. Back in 2017, I was just an enthusiast. There was a lot of demand in the market, and users in Europe and the US were really struggling with DIY, so I modified a fairly ordinary longboard and turned it electric,
It had a very good outcome, and at that stage it was very advanced.
Just over a month after we started, we ran into cash flow difficulties, even though we had already received more than 2 million in full and advance payments from customers. However, the platform wouldn’t release our funds, so we had to borrow 400,000 to 500,000 yuan ourselves to purchase materials, make the products, and ship them, and that was how we got the first batch out. At first, we weren’t thinking about building a brand, or even how far we could go in the industry, but with each update and iteration, its sales, views, recommendation rate, and positive review rate kept increasing. From that point on, we kept hiring people for production and working with suppliers to develop products that were more stable and better.
Because of the unique nature of electric skateboards, you first need a good product to build trust, and that trust ultimately has to rest on the few letters of the brand. From the time we made our first product, I put the MEEPO trademark on it, and I am responsible for every product that bears my letters. I started as a seller on my own independent website and then shifted to selling almost mainly on Amazon. We started selling on Amazon in August 2020, but as early as 2017, when we first began selling our products, many US customers told us they wanted to buy our products on Amazon because that was a shopping method they really liked. The fact is that many users shop on Amazon, so the question was simply when the manufacturer would be ready and when to bring the products to the broader public, and Amazon can significantly amplify a brand’s impact.
I think the credibility Amazon gives a brand is something an independent website can't achieve.
Amazon has created many brand tools for brand sellers, including ABA, authentic customer reviews, the Vine program, and virtual bundles. Through authentic buyer reviews and interactions with buyers, we build long-term relationships with customers. Virtual bundles help us address new-customer needs and drive accessory sales. We then use Posts to round out user scenarios and drive conversion with more compelling images and videos. Combined with traffic fed back to Amazon from off-Amazon DTC platforms, this allows us to keep control of all our traffic. MEEPO’s best-selling ASIN now has more than 1,000 reviews, all of them organic customer reviews. We have sold two products on Amazon
In fact, they are all the best and most popular products we sell. They just hit two mainstream groups. We also discovered that some users use skateboards to walk their dogs because they can't walk that far and fast on their own.
Some users also left comments on Amazon saying they are already in their 60s or 70s, with white hair, and that this was truly their first time trying skateboarding. I think this is something very meaningful. We hope to bring e-Scooters, a fun activity—or rather, a fun sport—to households around the world. We believe that with a platform like Amazon, we can reach users around the world more efficiently.
