Merchant Fulfilled Network (MFN), short for Merchant Fulfillment Network, means that after receiving a buyer’s order, the seller ships the product directly to the buyer. Sellers handle the entire process, from inventory management and product packaging to cross-border shipping, customer service, and returns management. For Chinese sellers, this means shipping products from within China to overseas buyers on their own. So, if you choose Merchant Fulfilled Network, how should you ship your orders?Here are some common shipping methods for Merchant Fulfilled Network (MFN). You can weigh the advantages and disadvantages of each option to choose the one that works best for you.
What are the common shipping methods for Merchant Fulfilled Network?
There are four common shipping methods for MFN sellers: postal parcels, international express delivery, dedicated shipping lines, and overseas warehouse fulfillment. You can choose the right shipping method based on factors such as the type, weight, size, and safety of the products you sell, the buyer’s delivery requirements, shipping costs, and peak and off-peak seasons.
Method 1: postal parcels
Postal parcels are properly packaged items sent by postal services that are suitable for mailing and are a type of mail. Post offices are widely available. They have their own postal routes and can also use transportation networks such as rail, road, water, and air, so they can meet the public’s shipping needs, especially for small individual items. International postal parcels that are transported by air for all or part of the journey are called airmail parcels. Small, lightweight packages that do not exceed a certain weight limit and are handled like letters and shipped with priority together with letter mail are called express small packets.
● Advantages: low cost, convenient mailing, and delivery to most parts of the world;
● Disadvantages: slower delivery times, and stricter package weight limits. Also, although ePacket includes tracking and registered small packets can be tracked in most countries, regular mail is harder to track, so the package loss rate for regular mail is relatively high.
Method 2: International Express
International express delivery refers to express delivery and logistics services carried out between two or more countries (or regions). Usually, after the package arrives in the destination country, it still needs to be transferred again within that country before it can finally be delivered to the buyer. Commonly used logistics carriers include DHL, UPS, FedEx, etc.
● Advantages: fast, stable, and trackable delivery;
● Disadvantages: prices are relatively higher than with other methods. There are certain requirements and restrictions for the products themselves, and products with batteries, counterfeit products, and special-category products generally cannot be delivered. In addition, an invoice and the recipient's assistance in customs clearance and tax payment are also required.
Method 3: International dedicated shipping lines
International dedicated shipping lines refer to logistics routes to specific countries. Common transportation methods for international dedicated shipping lines include sea, air, and rail freight. Usually, UK, US, and Germany dedicated shipping lines refer to international dedicated shipping lines.
● Advantages: consolidate large volumes of goods and ship them together to the destination country, thereby reducing costs. Prices are lower than international express delivery, but faster than international small parcels, and the package loss rate is also relatively low;
● Disadvantages: domestic pickup coverage is limited, and prices are also higher than postal small parcels.
Method 4: Overseas warehouse fulfillment
Overseas warehouse delivery refers to exporting products in bulk to a warehouse in the destination country and, after receiving a buyer order, shipping them directly from the overseas warehouse.
● Advantages: fast delivery. Since the shipping location is in the destination country, it improves competitiveness against foreign sellers, and buyers can enjoy a better shopping experience. In addition, there are no category restrictions, delivery is fast, and inventory can also be replenished in various ways, such as by air or sea freight;
● Disadvantages: Because products for sale are stored in overseas warehouses, sellers may find it difficult to precisely manage and control products and inventory. If products are slow to sell, there is a risk of inventory backlogs and increased storage costs. Overseas warehouse costs include transportation costs, storage costs, delivery costs, VAT, and more, so costs may be relatively high. In addition, overseas warehouses vary in their operating and management capabilities, prices, and other factors. If you are interested in overseas warehouses, we recommend that you carefully consider multiple factors based on your business needs before choosing one.
